He has Japanese street cred. They just wanted to make up a name that they could market. Fans in Europe chanted fat ninja at him.

My dad would cry seeing that. He sees all of Punk's tattoos. He seriously once asked Was he a sailor? Only sailors should have tattoos like that. My dad is this old school military guy. I think he likes Cena because he was The Marine. My dad does hate Miz absolutely, which helps redeem him.
