Yeah, that´s a good point. I definitely want to keep my digital comics, even if the company goes out of business.

I personally have had no problem paying for 'Cloud Based' comics that I'm really only paying for the right to view. Yeah, maybe its a little disconcerning if the company goes bust and you're SOL. But you can't really worry about stuff like that.

Also, I kinda like how Graphicly appears to be tied to my Google Account. That sure is easy to get signed up and going.

Okay. Apparently Graphicly does actually allow your to DL and store file versions of the comics you buy.

Here's how it works. First you have to download the Adobe AIR Graphicly program for Windows and Mac. Found on this page of the Graphicly site. Make sure you're signed up with Graphicly first.

Once you've installed and updated that program, you can browse and view Graphicly comics through this program instead of the browser. When you go to 'My Collection' there is a button under your comics that says 'Download'. This installs the file to your computer, so that you can have a back up, and view the comic while offline.

It does appear that the comics are stored as a proprietary format (with a .TC extension). They are stored in the Graphic.ly folder in your Documents folder (in Windows).

The comics are not available in other formats, like PDF or CBR. BUT, you will 'own' your comics with Graphicly. Which is certainly novel.

HOWEVER. Apparently, the FREE version of Savage Dragon 175 is only free in the Graphic.ly browser viewer on their website. Its not Free through the actual store front, and you can't add it to 'Your Comics' unless you pay 2.99 for it.

So is something similar offered for comixology as well? We should revisit this on our next podcast and report the findings.

I've used ComiXology quite a bit, and to the best of my knowlege there is no way to download comic files to your PC (or Mac). Its 'online only' when it comes to web browser viewing as they have no stand alone application.

Now, I do know on mobile devices like iPad and iPhone and the like, you do download a file of some sort before you can read the comic. Its not streaming, and you can read those comics you've installed while off-line. But they can't possibly be in any kind of useful PC file format.

Or maybe I just haven't dug deep enough.

But if you wan to talk Digital Comics on the next FINcast. I'm totally game. I have many words on the subject.

Can you do this with both Comixology and Graphic.ly on either an iPad or Kindle Fire? 'Cause those are the devices I primarily want to read digital comics on.

Yes on the iPad, not sure on the Kindle.

Definitely on iPad. I can't imagine Kindle (which is Android based) is much different.
