I really want to hit on that nostalgic 80's toy logo style....

I don't care for the minimalistic approach....I want a big shape personally. Kinda like the Savage Dragon logo...it's big, bad and in yo face!
As far as calling it just GUTTERTOWN, we dont want it to end up like another KING CITY, SIN CITY...we like the ring of GUTTERTOWN MASSIVE. Massive in UK mc slang is like "people", but we also want it to evoke a particular crushing force.
GUTTERTOWN is basically future Seattle, where the city has been built up so HUGE and gigantic, its this enormous mountain of buildings....and the landmarks and areas we know today as Seattle are buried in the catacombs of this huge, dense, crazy city.....so the people who live down there call it GUTTERTOWN, because they live in the trenches...MASSIVE is what we are calling the overcrowding/tension/daily grind that the people in this city deal with on a daily basis....almost like it's the breaking point. There's gonna be street gangs, mutants, ninjas, beat cops, hi-tech corporate security forces, androids, prostitutes, junkies...dirty back alleys everywhere - the stuff we love the most!! It wont focus on a central character...the CITY is the character, and we will be jumping around, like in Frank Miller's Sin City style, to different areas, and characters throughout multiple story arcs.
HEAVY METAL magazine doesn't really have much to do with HEAVY METAL music, but it just sounds awesome! I honestly want the logo the look like it would kick ass on an action figure package, or on a video game box. We are really trying to pull inspiration for our stories from things like Electronic music, and video games...You see how in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles logo, "TURTLES" is the the only real focal point, and "teenage mutant ninja" is minimal, or how in Savage Dragon "DRAGON" is huge, but "savage" is smaller.....Well, we are sort of thinking MASSIVE will be like the BIG LOGO, and Guttertown will be smaller branding.
Thank you all so much for your input! I hope this thread isn't inappropriate to put on Erik's boards, it's just I've been coming here for so long, and kind of feels like a second home - and I didn't want to keep taking up valuable page space in the "ASK ERIK THREAD". We have the first 12 pages inked and lettered, and the cover is almost fully colored - then we are going to print it off small as a little preview comic to pass around at Emerald City ComiCon! We will also be releasing the pages as we create them on a website as a free online comic! So as soon as we get this dang logo figured out, we will have pages ready to go LIVE! I will ask my writer if he is okay with me putting up a preview of the artwork in here - just to show I actually have art to back this up! It's my best art I've ever done! Casey, my writer, LIVES comics - he works at the comic shop, and has a HUGE collection of the coolest comics ever (japanese/European too!) He has been "ghost drawing" the pages with me, and has really pushed me to practice my page layouts and interesting ways of creating good page/eye flow....It's been the most rewarding art project I've ever worked on! We can't wait to share it! Lots of Old City Blues, King City, Biomega, Shadoweyes influence!
Your input is SO APPRECIATED! Thanks fin-heads!!
