Hopefully we see more of Fosco in the future. Would love to see him draw more classic Larsen characters at some point.

Vanguard Part 3/SD 174 cover stages ahoy!

This was a fun one. There was a LOT that the colors needed to accomplish. Here are some of the iterations:

1: Frank's Pencils

2: Erik's Inks

3: Flatting work
More of an in-progress step; shades and highlights have already begun to be added to the base flat colors here.

4: Dave's first pass at colors
The Earth needed to be more prominent than it was here, and the bright light of the sun over the horizon had to be taken out because it looked too much like something impacting the planet. Also, Van's shadow looked more like it was being cast on a wall behind him rather than a window in front of him. Still pretty cool, though.

5: Refining the colors
The earth has been re-done completely, there are fewer stars, and space is darker.

6: Dave's finished cover colors
Van's been darkened a bit overall (as the window he's leaning on is reflecting some of the blackness of space), and some of the shading has been tightened up to better match the linework. The Earth's been moved off of Van's chin and given a hard edge. And we're done!

1. Gary Carlson will be at the Comic Book Mania convention July 7th in Elgin, Illinois!
Along with fellow Big Bang Comics author Chris Ecker, Knight Watchman artist Ben Torres, and a host of other comic creators and cartoonists! Stop by and say hello!

Frank mentioned this above, but it bears repeating:
2. Frank Fosco will be at the San Diego Comic Con, July 12th-15th!
Bug him and Erik for commissions! Buy some comics and original art! Good times!

3. The Vanguard feature in Savage Dragon has been extended from its originally planned ten chapters to TWELVE!
Gary and Frank had a larger story to tell and needed the extra pages to fit it all in. Lots of cool status-quo-changing things happening in Van's life right about now! Yay!

4. NEW Vanguard goodness is out this week with Wednesday's Savage Dragon 180! Pick it up!
