Jim Lee's new Darkseid design... I love Jim, but like all of his other DC designs, this is needlessly complex and a bit of a 90's eyesore --

THAT'S what Darkseid needed--shoulder pads!

Not really. If it had veins galore, pouches everywhere, and huge, L-shaped guns I'd say it was a 90s eyesore. :P

WELP.

DC is pushing out two 'Digital First' comic series. Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond. That will be released in Weekly installments. And then collected into 48 page print 'issues' after their runs.

I am very curious about this will be received. As its pretty much what I've been advocating for a while, and was dismayed to see left out of the initial New 52 push. One thing still bugging me. The comics are still formatted for common print dimensions. Which still isn't taking advantage of the digital arena as well as could be done. But. Baby Steps I suppose.

Its cool that they are dipping their toes in that water, tho frankly, I'm not interested in digital except as a way to save space. But at the same price as print, I have to go with print.

It IS exciting to see Norm Breyfogle getting some regular work again though. Hopefully it lasts awhile.

I don't get why you would lower the price of digital and keep print prices high.

Once you have sold a book to a retailer there is no way to force them to lower the price. There is an incentive to make older digital books less expensive if it can get readers into the book.

Wow. It's funny how FAST the comic industries jumping into the digital water now. They fought it and fought it , then BAM-everyone's day and date. Now we have 2 "digital first" titles? ha ha. How long till it's "digital only"?

Anyway it's exciting. In a way it saddens me. Previously my funny book shop owner said he wasn't sweating digital because there'd always be some form of print and he has a ton of variety outside of tights and fights.
Last time I talked to him though he was kinda sweatin' it. He also said if they went digital before print it'd cause a lot of shop owners to be pissed.

Gotta wonder what the fall out (if any) will be.
