Post subject:  Looking for Savage Dragon in French

I've decided to take up learning French as an adult and am at the point that I can read at about a 6th grade level. (nt bad for 8 months!)

As a HUGE Dragon fan I'd love to get some issues or even better a few trades in French. Amazon and Ebay are both no goes and I tried a few Canada based book shops which are also not in stock.

I live in California. Does anyone have suggestion or could offer help getting some issues or trades in French? any Fin-Addicts in Canada or France who might be able to help? Gladly pay all costs/shipping etc. Love Baptism of Fire or even single recent issues. (#47 in French would be my holy grail)

Thanks!

I don't know that it lasted that long in French. I'm not honestly sure. I do know that they've given it a couple shots and that limited runs are available here and there. I think the recent crossover with Spawn was collected.

A hardcover (translated by yours truly) was released in 2010 by Delcourt. It contains : Issue 0 + The Original Mini with all the extra material (I think we used the "The Dragon" reprint as a basis) - The Dragon: Blood & Guts #1-3 and issues 1&2 of the regular series.

(Price has gone up from 27 euros to 40 because it's now out of print. Sadly, I don't have comp copies that I can part with)

Before that, in 1996-1997, Semic had published the original mini as a trade (with no extras), and issues 1 to 8 as singles containing two US issue per book. That makes four French issues, but if you get the Delcourt Hardcover, you can dispense with Semic's trade and first issue.

You could start by doing searches on http://www.ebay.fr or http://www.priceminister.com with words like "Savage Dragon" + "Semic" or "Savage Dragon" + "Delcourt", and see what pops up.

Here's a list of what the French books contain. It might be helpful:

The Semic trade (from their "Collection Image" series):

Thank you! I greatly appreciate the info. The only roadbloack is that Amazon Fr does not ship to the US. But I have some friends in the UK and this gives me a good lead to start with.

Most appreciate it. And thanks for chiming in Erik too! I'm sure when you started this train in 92', it was clearly your first intention for fans to use Dragon as an education tool to learn a second language! ;-)

EDIT: I guess Amazon.fr DOES ship to the US. You just have to sign out of Prime to do it. Neat. Can't wait to read your translation. Merci bien!

I also bought this, I assume it contains some of your run on ASM based on the cover:

It does, but you might be disappointed by the price/pages ratio. It contains ASM #s 330 to 333 plus two other issues and originally sold for around 5 euros.

(Wow, I just checked the "Vengeance of Venom" US trade that bears the same cover as that French book. 303 pages for $14! Sorry if you were expecting something like this... Collecting foreign comics in the US is an expensive venture, it seems...)

I think I read somewhere that translations of Marvel Comics in foreign languages were available in their digital offer. If you're into digital, you might want to check that out when it comes to Erik's Marvel stuff.

Looks like the Spanish edition. I remember mentioning it on a thread on foreign editions of Dragon a while back, but I can't remember if it still exists or if it was wiped out when the forum restarted.

EDIT : Found it. That's funny, I didn't get around to do the French editions.

Well cool. I did pick up your translation of Baptism of Fire. As I wait, I also easily got Jeff Smith's Bone in French. And it was fully colored too. But yeah, overall foreign language edition are definitely harder to track down then I anticipated.
