Near Death #4 (SPOILERS)

Probably my favorite issue so far. We get a good mixture of action with Markham carving his way through the triads, and character building with his conversations with Sutten and realizing that he's kind of lonely. Really good cliffhanger to finish things up with. Really hope Sutten is OK, I want to see more of her character. Really enjoying the series so far.

There's a cliffhanger? So the issues are no longer self-contained? Pity, I was digging that pace. Can't wait to buy the new issue.

I read somewhere from Jay that this one was a two-parter but the next few issues are back to being self contained.

Yeah, I plan to do done-in-ones more often than not, but it's always been the plan to have occasional two (and maybe even three) parters. Issues #4-5 are a two-parter, but issues #6, #7, and #8 are all single issues. Not sure if #9 will be single or not -- I haven't written it yet!

I do hope that 'done-in-one' doesn't mean we won't see plot threads build over time. I'd hate to think we won't see that lady cop again. Because her and Markham's relationship seems like it has a lot of legs in the long term.

Oh yeah -- there's definitely a cumulative narrative going on. Issue #5 should make that perfectly clear. Hell, issue #4 did, since it featured Brewster, the hitman from issue #1.

As long as Boss Hogg doesn't lose the election in one episode and have his position back in the next, I'm good. Not that I'm bitter about a 30-year-old episode of Dukes. :evil:
