Jerad741, you can not be serious right now. The Walking Dead is a Zombie show, it will NEVER have the widespread fanbase of any of the comparisons you are making. I am a die hard comic book and sci fi fan, and even I will rarely watch a zombie movie. I have never seen an episode of The Walking Dead. I bought the comic because I like the art, but after reading it, I realized I just wasnt into the story.
I also was not even paying attention to the cost of this book six months ago. I told someone I had this book and they told me I should sell it because a bunch of speculators are caught up in a wave of buying right now, thinking it will be worth more down the road. All veteran comic fans recognize this as a bubble that will pop in its time. Like I said, it might hot for a few more years, but it will not last forever.
The initial print run of the first issue was about 7000 I believe, most of those are still in good condition, compare that with Amazing Fantasy #15, which probably has around 1400 left in existence and only a small number of those are in somewhat decent condition, and that book sells for $41000.
Your anticipations for this book are wild and completely ludicrous. #1 might go up another hundred or so, but it will surely fall in the next couple years.
Not only that, but The Walking Dead, is NOWHERE close to a generations one film event. I have never heard anyone I work with talking about it, nor have I ever heard anyone in my family or close circle of friends talking about it. Come to think of it, I don't think that I know anyone that is a hardcore fan of the show, with the exception of maybe some comic book friends on message boards. I know that it is a hit show, but there are A LOT of hit shows.
HEY Mike... let all your boring coworkers know TWD is the #1 best selling comic in July... also let them know that their fan base crashed the AMC site last night. I'll keep you updated over the next couple years with how silly you are periodically.
