I loved it!! I've been a solid fanboy of this book from issue 1. The doctor's character is one of the best new voices in comics. And the way each issue is dripping with new twists on characters/powers/concepts (like the sword's "sword in the stone" bit, or the assistant yelling "clear" as he uses shock paddle hands) keeps me consistently amazed. I also love how it's equal parts medical drama and occult. Just genius.

One of the best books out of image in my opinion. WANT MOAR!!

While they were definitely used to great effect, I hope the "super powered" elements of Witch Doctor only get about as far as they did in issue 4. This book doesn't need any traditional comic book schtick to be fooking awesome.

@Euge Yeah. I totally second that. As long as it's kept creative and surprising I'm happy.

Dr. Morrow sort of reminds me of Doctor Who.

good, and you suck for this not being a monthly haha
Dude, if this was a monthly book, I'd actually be able to pay my rent every month off comics money. I wish we could go ongoing, too.

Well, it is a book about a sorcerer, so we are going to continue to see Morrow using magic. The different between WD and other books will continue to be the way Morrow does his magic — mostly either in the form of weird mystical machines, or in medicine-analogs (pills, shots, etc) rather than by making hand gestures and alliterating at people or whatever.

(Another thing I hope people have noticed in WD is that magic has consequences and side-effects, like medicine does. The "sleeping pills" Morrow used in #2 cause insomnia, and the electricity pills in #4 have an amphetamine-style "crash" afterwards. It's the same as how taking too much ibuprofin is bad for your kidneys, or how chemotherapy can potentially kill you.)

That's not intentional — I started writing WD stories before I ever saw any Doctor Who — but perfectly legitimate. :)

Oh no, not accusing of intentionality. If that's a word. He just has a similar kind of aura of being smarter than everyone else, knowing more than everyone else, and that same kind of feel about him that, no matter how much danger he's in, he's sort of invulnerable. It's tense as all hell, but I don't really worry about him... if that makes any sense.

Very cool book, Herr Seifert. Now make it monthly. That is all. kthxbye.

I think it's cool that Dr. Morrow has a strong personality that lives up to (without copying) the greats of horror/sci fi like Doctor Who, Doc Brown (Back to the Future), Gaius Baltar (Battlestar Galactica) and others. He totally has his own voice, but his personality is huge like the previously mentioned greats.

Also, I'm cool with the supernatural elements in the book and I know WD will definitely have it's own decidedly non-traditional vibe. I didn't mean my previous comment as a dig at all (I just like really unique/atypical comics that refuse to take the path most followed)

Definitely. I see him as sort of continuation of the quirky non-trad hero archetype begun by Sherlock Holmes.

I also dig that he's not particularly likable. At least not initially. That's kind of refreshing. I like the fact that he's the smartest guy in the room, and that he knows it.
