First official review for Debris #1!

"This world cries out for a hero and her name is Maya. In one issue we are gifted with a new female icon in comics. Stronger, faster, smarter than any of her “peers” – if anyone could truly be called an equal. She is the strongest hero in this world given the seemingly simplest of tasks."

Hahaha, yeah? Well this was my first pull list ever and Wiebe dominates it by having more titles on it than any other writer :P ;)

It came out?

I didn't have it at my LCS...I'll have to check on that.

Visited my LCS after a week out of town and they had my copy of Debris #1.

So I've really hyped this title up in the lead-up to its release. Usually I build things up too much and get a little let down in the end. Did this happen again with Debris...? NO WAY!!!

I really liked the set up to this new epic story and I'm very eager to read the rest of the Debris miniseries. The whole thing really had a classic anime vibe to the story and visuals - it reminded me of how excited I felt as a kid when I first discovered quality anime that was geared to young adults. It has all the hallmarks of those big anime stories of my youth: a dystopian future, environmental collapse, giant robots, a young hero that must rise to the occasion, action!! The combination of Riley Rossmo's art and the colors popped like fireworks. It really felt like the comic book equivalent of walking into a fully-stocked candy store.

Anyway, Debris really helps round out the various titles from Kurtis Wiebe that are currently available. It brings a different story type into the mix that never ceases to entertain. So for me, the triple threat of the summer is Debris, Peter Panzerfaust and Grim Leaper. Thanks for all the awesome material, Kurtis!

Found out what happened with my copy of issue #1. The shipment of them that my LCS had delivered were all damaged. They are working on getting undamaged copies of the book now, and I should have one by the time I get to the comic shop next time.

Yay for comic shops that go out of the way to get their people good copies of books. Boo on the delay in getting my copy.

EDIT: LCS dude emailed me. I have a non-damaged copy of #1 in my pull box right now. Now I just have to get up there and get it.
