Visited my LCS after a week out of town and they had my copy of Debris #1.
So I've really hyped this title up in the lead-up to its release. Usually I build things up too much and get a little let down in the end. Did this happen again with Debris...? NO WAY!!!
I really liked the set up to this new epic story and I'm very eager to read the rest of the Debris miniseries. The whole thing really had a classic anime vibe to the story and visuals - it reminded me of how excited I felt as a kid when I first discovered quality anime that was geared to young adults. It has all the hallmarks of those big anime stories of my youth: a dystopian future, environmental collapse, giant robots, a young hero that must rise to the occasion, action!! The combination of Riley Rossmo's art and the colors popped like fireworks. It really felt like the comic book equivalent of walking into a fully-stocked candy store.
Anyway, Debris really helps round out the various titles from Kurtis Wiebe that are currently available. It brings a different story type into the mix that never ceases to entertain. So for me, the triple threat of the summer is Debris, Peter Panzerfaust and Grim Leaper. Thanks for all the awesome material, Kurtis!
