I purchased the TPB a few weeks back when it came out and never got around to posting my 2 cents on it.

Michel, great job putting this project together, I loved the backups, but I think I like the trade even more! I love Marvel's new Strange Tale comics and DC's Bizarro Comics so this was right up my alley. The best thing about it was that it was strictly Savage Dragon related.

You saved some real goodies for the trade too! Some of my favorites were exclusive to the trade.

Some of my faves:

As always, Tom Scioli blew my socks off with his artwork. Thank you for convincing Tom to jump aboard this project. I loved it and found myself wanting more!

My favorite, story-wise, was Angel and Glum strip by Kat Roberts. It almost made me wish it was cannon. It was really well written and you could tell Roberts is a fan of the book. She gets how to write the characters.

The Lex and Rugg strip was awesome for showcasing so many cool characters. Truly a visual delight. Another trade exclusive that I loved (even if they labled the mighty Rudehead as just plain ol' "Savage World Monster" :D )

My absolute favorite all around was the Dragon vs Mako by Camargo. I loved his art and anything set in a post-apocalyptic age is cool with me! I loved the action and Camargo draws a bad ass Dragon. It would have been cool if he added more VC goons into the mix instead of the generic mutants, but it still works.

I wish Mayberry drew more than just that pinup because it ruled.

Joe Keatinge get's bonus points for getting Larsen to draw some panels and for incorporating Art Adams' Dragon variations.

Jon Adams' has a wicked sense of humor-- his strip left me speechless

Farrinas' use of Universo ruled

All in all, I loved most of the strips. Marra's werewolf planet strip was a little too weird for me, and I felt like the Mukai strip didn't incorporate the Dragon character much. Basically Dragon could have been replaced with anyone in the strip and it wouldn't have changed anything.

Anyway, bravo to all involved. I enjoyed reading the individual backups with the Savage Dragon comics, but reading the collection as a whole was an even better experience. I loved everyone's take on the characters. I hope to see more in the future.

If Michael Fiffe is still out there I did use the old twisted funnies thread to check out the links to the artist's particular haunts. Please feel free to pimp those again, Amigo.

I just finished the trade last night, and what I found remarkable was how the strips, collected together, really strengthened each other. Some of the stories that underwhelmed me in the ongoing were given a fresh context, and I think it made everything much more enjoyable. The sequencing was great, breaking up the order that the originals appeared in, in the series. And every new entry was STELLAR! The extras alone are worth the price of admission. I know I have an undeniable bias as a Dragon reader, BUT...even on its own merits it's just a great comic book. It really gets what Savage Dragon is all about.

It's close to my favorite SD related book. Second only to the Destroyer Duck crossover.

Excuse my lateness, but I just wanted to weigh in an thank you all very much. Seriously, your feedback and enthusiasm is awesome. Craig, Justin, Raven, and all of you who wrote in... you're all great. These compliments make a world of difference. On behalf of the entire crew, thank you.

We recently had an official signing at Jim Hanley's Universe here in New York City. Here are some photos from the event: http://michelfiffe.com/?p=1514

It's too bad about the old forum. Lots of great threads that went beyond banter. It's a little weird having it be gone, but here we are, moving on.

As for any creator info, art, links, or anything else you may be interested in relation to TWISTED SAVAGE DRAGON FUNNIES, it can all be found over at my site. I backed up all of the info I had put on the previous board:

First/monthly round of contributors: http://michelfiffe.com/?p=513

Second round of collection exclusives: http://michelfiffe.com/?p=1078

As always, there's a Facebook page. And for all of you web savvy readers, TSDF is available at Comixology: http://www.comixology.com/series/6516/T ... on-Funnies

I can't thank every one of you enough, even those who preferred ads to the content... but less so ;)

Now if only I can follow Jim Purcell's directions and get this damn avatar to show up!

I picked up the TBP when it came out as well. The new stories were nice additions, and having all those interpretations of Erik's characters between two covers was fantastic.

Much like the Popgun anthologies, I think this will be one of those books that I'm inspired to pick up and flip through on a regular basis.

Cool. I'm happy it was a great review, but I really don't care for reviewers tone toward Image comics. He kind of comes off as one those guys who never liked Image and still compares everything from Image to Youngblood #1. That whole first paragraph completely put me off to the rest of the review.

I've been having that experience with a lot of reviews, lately. Too much attitude, too many tangents. I just stop reading after a few sentences. I mean, I’m glad the guy gave the book a good review, but after that opening salvo, this guy’s opinion is moot. If critics put as much time and effort into their research and writing as they did into trying to sound clever, they’d do much better work.

Image has, for many, become a guilty pleasure. It has its reputation from the early '90s to live down. What bothers me more than dogging the past--is the mind-reading, which often accompanies that. "Taking themselves incredibly seriously?" Really? THat's what you got from our beginning years? Not youthful enthusiasm or naiveté or seven lads taking an exuberant leap of faith--but "taking themselves incredibly seriously?"

Clearly somebody wasn't paying attention.

I think of the early Image Comics as being somewhat akin to the early Golden Age comics. It's a bunch of books thrown together by a group of guys who really haven't quite figured out how to make comics and what they're doing. There are flashes of brilliance and plenty of crashing and burning but there was a genuine energy there--genuine excitement being created before the readers' eyes. Yeah, there are some dreadful books in there--but there's a lot of fun in there--and it was a time of great creativity and experimentation and chaos. It was a fun time to be creating comics. And nobody I knew was "taking themselves incredibly seriously."
