Hey all,

I'm sporting a sweet moustache (at least I think it's sweet) this month in order to raise some awareness and some cash for prostate cancer research through the Movember campaign.

Support this great cause if you can!

Thanks!!

A little bit about Movember....

On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts.

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

The funds raised in Canada support the number one male cancer, prostate cancer.

The funds raised are directed to programs run directly by Movember and our men’s health partner, Prostate Cancer Canada. Together, the two channels work together to ensure that Movember funds are supporting a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in line with our strategic goals in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.

Movember raised C $76.8 million globally during the 2010 campaign, an increase of C $34.2 million over the prior year. The funds were raised by 447,808 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas located in Australia, New Zealand, the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland. In each country Movember partners with high quality men’s health charities that share Movember’s vision of having an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health.

Movember’s cost focus and economies of scale, have resulted in a global fundraising and administration cost to funds raised ratio of 8% which is low by international standards - best practice is in the range of 15% - 25%.

Movember’s global financials are audited each year by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Of the funds raised, 86% has been committed to prostate cancer research and survivor support programs run by PCC, and 2% funded Movember’s awareness and education program. PCC and Movember together ensure that funded programs are world-class and align with our strategic goals.

All funds donated to our men's health partners are restricted and are only to be used for programs. Movember funds are not permitted to be used for fundraising or administration costs not related to programs.

Go, Murch! I have also grown a mustache for the month (along with a beard). I might even keep them.

Nice! I used to sport a beard up until a few months ago when I had to shave it for work - wish I still could.

As for the moustache, I don't think Melissa's going to let that stick around. :P

Yours makes you look like a porn star or a NASCAR driver. Mine makes me look like I teach beginning psychology at a community college. Why do people grow these things?

Honestly? No idea. The baby-boomers seem to have a thing for it though. I've got friends who have never seen their father without one - and most have probably sported one since they started to sprout a few whiskers.

ps. In case anyone's wondering, that's not my real hair. It's the remnants of a Magnum P.I. costume from a few years back. Thought I'd take a fun pic for my Movember profile. Oh, and my moustache looks much less NASCAR in person, I assure you.
