Why do you enjoy Image more than DC or Marvel?

I love the price of the comics.

Since the New 52, I've been paying 4.99 for Action Comics and Justice League. I love these titles but hits my wallet hard.

I only pay $2.99 for Morning Glories. A fantastic story that includes 32 pages. That's awesome!

I dont...
I read way more Marvel books than Image books.
While I love Image Comics... I love individual Image comics. Other than Kirkman's books and The Savage Dragon their isnt an image title by one of the partners of Image that I read. So most of the books I read from Image could easily go to IDW, Dark Horse, BOOM, or any other indy publisher and I would follow them there.

And that is what sets Image appart form other publisher. It's about the books, not about the company. ANY book could go anywhere. Even the founder books. They probably will not, because those guys believe in Image and what it stands for. But Larsen could take Savage Dragon to Boom. Kirkman could take The Walking Dead to Marvels ICON Imprint. It happened before. Lee took his books to DC and Liefeld took his books away from Image at some point. Image owns no books at all, as I understand it.

Aside from DC's Vertigo imprint, I have zero interest in the Big Two. I read Image comics because they're the most willing comics label to publish creative, non-traditional comics while protecting the intellectual property of the creators. Image is also great because they still work with writers and artists that can meet or exceed the quality that the Big Two has more bucks to pay for.

I admit I got back into comics after nearly a decade away from them because of The Walking Dead (I'm a horror movie nerd, zombies in particular), but this proved to be a gateway drug to other Kirkman books (Invincible) and similarly creative/atypical titles such as Green Wake and Witch Doctor. I'm sure there are other Image books that I haven't tried yet that I would love. Plus, there are more on the horizon that I definitely intend to at least give a fair shot (Rebel Blood, Peter Panzerfaust).

I have no favourite company really. The quality and number of the books i pull changes constantly so i dont really prefer one over the others.

Currently im liking a lot of the new 52, 18 of them in fact.

Image im getting 9 books but will be trying all the new extreme titles and a few others in the coming months.

And now that Black Panthers been cancelled (RAAAAAGE!) im down to just 3 from Marvel.

The only thing i can really establish is i need to cut my pull list 0_o

I have a pretty decent mix. Probably more generic Big Two stuff than I need, but I've always been a fan of the X-books and they're on an upswing at the moment. My absolute favorites are The Walking Dead and Invincible followed closely by The Boys and Fables (both of which I trade-wait on), Punisher MAX, and Peter David's X-Factor. I get a bunch of other crap, too, but these are the ones I read first. TWD I usually make whoever I'm with wait on me while I read it immediately, LOL.

You know, I think Kirkman is the only Image writer I currently buy. Part of that is a reluctance to grow my pull list. Any solid recs?

Morning Glories and The Strange Talent of Luther Strode are ones that I highly recommend. I read plenty of other really excellent Image titles but those two would be my top two after The Walking Dead and Invincible that you're already reading.

I don't know that I necessarily enjoy Image more than DC or Marvel. I get a handfull of DC titles, a ton of Marvel, and a lot of Image. I pick up any comics from any publisher that I enjoy. Whether I enjoy it because of it's story, art, my childhood favorites, etc. I will say that many of the new comics that I try (outside of the new 52 from DC) are from Image for a couple of reasons - 1.) Marvel and DC rarely put out anything new (I don't mean something like Wolverine and the Xmen which is just another Xmen book) and 2.) a lot of the stuff that is coming out of Image sounds interesting and is quality storytelling so it makes me want to try it out.

Month after month, I'm reading (and enjoying) more books from Image than from any other publisher. The DCU relaunch helped me get back into many of their titles, but I'm still reading more than twice as many Image books than DCU. The few remaining other books I read are from Vertigo, IDW, Boom!, Dark Horse, Red 5 and only one Marvel book (Ultimate Spider-Man).

Image has been KILLING IT these past few years, and especially so in 2011. Six of my ten favorite titles are Image books (Walking Dead, Hack/Slash, Morning Glories, Chew, Skullkickers, Green Wake). And there are plenty of excellent minis, like Bomb Queen, The Red Wing, Who is Jake Ellis?, Infinite Vacation, 27, etc. that are just amazing, well-rounded comics.

I'm proud to be affiliated with Image comics. It's appropriate that next year is the 20th Anniversary of the company because Image is as big a name now as it's ever been.
