I love Hack Slash... I am also a Justin Jordan fan, I like the guy. I don't know how I feel about the new story line though. Evidently SPOILER: vlad is a quarter demon and Cassie has the black blood now
Part of the purity of Hack Slash was Vlad's innocence... he was just a disfigured human who found friendship/love in the unlikeliest of places with a person who was just as scarred on the inside as he is on the outside. Now Vlad isnt misshapen, he is his natural form with superpower potential and now Cassie has super slasher powers... to me that is taking something away from the franchise. The lack of superpowers and super stories was part of the purity that made Hack Slash so very special.
I am a bit torn at the new story line... I dont know that I like the direction.
I actually disagree with you on Vlad and Cassie. On Vlad, this actually shows how good he really is. He has this bad blood in him but he's overcome that to be a really good guy. He didn't give in to the evil like the rest of his family but actually fights against that evil. He shows that he has a strong sense of goodness and what true family really is.
For Cassie, the black blood is almost certainly going to be temporary. But it raises big possibilities to be explored for her character. Is she going to give into this darkside? Will she become what she hates the most? They are going to explore these character issues with her.
As for this issue I thought it was excellent. Justin has a really good grasp on the character and the art looked great as always. I liked getting some back story on Vlad and loved how he showed his loyalty to his real family and fought against the Beanes. Really enjoyed the Mari character this issue as well.
