Mark and Eve's relationship is a real relationship with real consequences in their lives, not some James Bond-style hookup. The fact that they are sticking together through thick and thin (if you'll pardon the expression) means that there is so much more dramatic potential in their story. Maybe you guys don't understand that Eve being plus-sized and Mark sticking with her adds another layer of investment to the character. It's a clear sign that because he still cares and therefore WE still care. Kirkman's already killed Eve once, and he'll probably do it again... But it wouldn't matter to Mark (and by extension, to the readers) if Eve were just another hot babe he had hooked up with. There's a lot of tension already... A) Eve could very well be tempted to turn to someone else during Mark's coma just for sheer consolation... B) MArk's attractiveness to women is typically played down in the book but there have been hints (Universa's last look, etc.) and C) let's not forget that these two are in love and everything... but they're also, what, 19? They're young, superpowered horn-dogs! Anything could happen!
Agree with a lot of your thoughtful view points here. While I'd like to see sexy Eve make a comeback, I agree that Mark's acceptance of her is just another thing that shows that their relationship has depth and true feelings. One of the reasons I'm such a huge fan of them as a couple.
