but I mean, i don't see why the v's just dont take over earth now? what do they dinosaurs for? I don't see how it would change the parameters of the truce to take over the planet.

do we even know why there is a supposed "stalemate" anymore? its gotten kind of convoluted.

Mark and Eve's relationship is a real relationship with real consequences in their lives, not some James Bond-style hookup. The fact that they are sticking together through thick and thin (if you'll pardon the expression) means that there is so much more dramatic potential in their story. Maybe you guys don't understand that Eve being plus-sized and Mark sticking with her adds another layer of investment to the character. It's a clear sign that because he still cares and therefore WE still care. Kirkman's already killed Eve once, and he'll probably do it again... But it wouldn't matter to Mark (and by extension, to the readers) if Eve were just another hot babe he had hooked up with. There's a lot of tension already... A) Eve could very well be tempted to turn to someone else during Mark's coma just for sheer consolation... B) MArk's attractiveness to women is typically played down in the book but there have been hints (Universa's last look, etc.) and C) let's not forget that these two are in love and everything... but they're also, what, 19? They're young, superpowered horn-dogs! Anything could happen!
