As of today 4-10-12, they have approx. 4.5% remaining to hit their goal. In regards to their goal amount, both Kickstarter and Paypal take a cut before it gets to the creators. Then you budget in creative costs, printing / distribution costs, plus marketing and convention / store appearances.

I was told by an insider from the WB comics bureau that their break-even point, per comic book, was sales of 25k. Meaning that if they brought a 3-issue limited series to Kickstarter they'd be attempting to raise $85,000 (75k for the books + Pay pal & Kickstarter fees). The main difference is that the CG guys aren't funding an elaborate overhead. They are working from their own private studios. All said, it seems reasonable to me.

If readers + retailers continue our support, we should get another TPB too! Then, of course, 8 issues opens itself to be collected in an hardcover Absolute-gigantic-sized edition! :D

Hmmm. Didn't realize they were going the self-publishing route, I thought that it was going to be through Image... but, the numbers make more sense now. :-)

I also agree that CG would need to do Walking Dead numbers (25k+) in order to put the series in the black... at least for the initial serialized print portion, I suppose. The digital sales and the collections will need to be good, though. I've read a few things about the series and it's clear to me that a lot of care and attention to detail is being put into this and that it's a labor of love as well... unfortunately that doesn't always translate into solvency...

They are going thru Image for the story arc, but they are more than publishing volunteers & having them handle all the publisher duties has got to cost something. On the 'Labor of Love' topic, you are right on! Hoang & Khari have been working on it since '02. Khari would have these odd sequential pages with ladies we knew weren't Top Cow, but still hot.

In 2011 when the first issue hit, it really reminded me of Todd McFarlane's famous quote, "at Image we're growing roses." Carbon Grey is like nothing in the monthly corporate system of copyright extension comics. Khari & Hoang have drawn for Marvel, but knew that they could flourish under the Image " i ".

As of tonight, they are closng in on the goal. I hope they get there & deliver us even more of the Diesel Punk phenom, Carbon Grey!!! Maybe if the next #1 issue sells 5 million copies, gets a Studio Ghibli OAV and an RPG video game then they can be added as partners too!

We will soon see if Kickstarter works for 'em.

I kicked in $25. I wanted all three comics and the ashcan. ;) I really enjoy the feel and the art of this title and I hope they get what they need to make more issues. Good luck.

HaHa... I just figured that was some badguy villain. Nice Photoshopping bud. =D

Update on the Carbon Grey Kickstart, they have 0.95% to go to hit their funding goal. They are getting all kinds of International sponsor dudes, from Austria, United Kingdom, Belgium, Australia, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal, Denmark, Croatia, Mexico, France and Ireland!!!

Crazy right!? I didn't even know dudes outside of the USA had a shot at collecting Image's comic books. Except maybe Spawn cuz, ya know, that's got Hot-Toddy magic.

Anyhoo, any more dudes who want a chance at the sweet collectible-incentives, the countdown is on, only a short-time remaining to get in on the action!
