was great to get Alan Moore's final issue .. I have revisited Alan's SUPREME run in anticipation of this issue .. and it's still great every time I read it .. the most entertaining Alan Moore work ever .. for me, at least ..

Erik and Cory did a good job with the art .. I still like Chris Sprouse/Rick Veitch for SUPREME better .. but they did a good job ..

you know, I can tell when Erik has a finisher .. that a lot of what we see in Savage Dragon is done in the finishing stage .. the art was like Erik but there's a whole lot of Cory in it as well ..

now .. I'm looking forward to seeing Erik's version in #64 .. I know it will be vastly different .. because Erik is best to me when he does his own thing .. Savage Dragon was when I got on the Erik Larsen train and it's still a great ride ..

This.

The cool thing about this issue -- despite its density -- is how good of a jumping-on point it really is. Yes, it's mired in the story from the previous 20+ issues, but most everything a new reader would need to know is covered, and it serves as a pretty excellent springboard for what's coming next.

Which is, of course, what Moore intended.

I, for one, loved Supreme #63. Just seeing Erik draw an Alan Moore story is a huge geek-out for me, as I'm a total fanboy for both of their work. I love Moore's unironic tone and embrace of comic book staples, and Erik's art only serves to brighten those callbacks. Cory's finishes? Get outta here! He's great! Definitely the jelly to Erik's peanut butter. I almost like it better when Erik does breakdowns for inkers as opposed to full pencils; his energy comes out full force, letting champs like Cory Hamscher or Klaus Janson make those figures pop. Steve and Chris do their usual crucial job. This book was a real class act.

I am very anxious to see where they take it, though, like the rest of you guys. With Erik at the helm (and the great job he did with the quick cut narrative of SD #179) I could see a lot of those various Daxes really causing some brutal trouble. And put me on the list that wouldn't mind more Darius Duck. Waaaaak!

All three covers

I like all three. The Larsen cover is my favorite as it gives a symbolic nod to the events of the story, but I think the Hamscher cover would make a badass poster or cover for a trade edition.

I finally got my stack of books today...

Supreme was a mixed bag. Being a massive Silver Age Superman fan, I was a big fan of Moore's Supreme run as a love letter to that era. For the people that complain that Moore's Supreme was a straight Superman knock-off -- well, that was the whole point. He looked over Supreme and saw that it was a bad Superman knock-off, except "Superman... with an ATTITUDE!" He then realized the version DC was publishing was almost like a bad Superman knock-off, lacking all of the charm and imagination of the Silver Age version. Hence, a Superman rip-off better than the "real thing".

Not sure what I was expecting here... I knew going in that we weren't really getting an ending to the story Moore started, but it was still a let-down for the whole to end on another cliff-hanger. I knew it from the start but I guess I was hoping for something that wasn't possible. That said, the story we got was pretty damn good and I loved all the bits with Dax and the evil version of Diana.

Surprisingly, I was pretty let-down on the art end of things. I love Erik's layouts and he seems like a totally awesome guy, but I'm not a fan of the McFarlane-esque rendering Hamscher used on his roughs. It just looked too busy and felt like an eyesore at times. The techniques was as crisp and well-done as you can want for that style, I guess I'm just not into the style -- or I'm not a fan of it over Erik's foundation.

Still, I'm glad we finally, finally got Moore's last issue and if anyone is gonna finish this puppy besides Moore, I'm glad we've got Erik Larsen on Supreme.

I also read Savage Dragon #179 and Danger Club #1... Dragon was awesome (as usual) but Danger Club was a mess. It didn't have a satisfying feel as a story, like we were dropped into the middle of a yarn made up of a long string of grim 'n gritty cliches. I'll be dropping that puppy straight away.

Okay, finally read it, and enjoyed it as much as possible without having any history with Supreme. I wasn't lost or bored, but all that stuff didn't do much to me, because I was missing the whole context. Not complaining, it's what I expected.
It's crazy how dense Moores writing is. It was quite a long read, without coming of as overly or unnecessary wordy.

The art was amazing. Erik and Cory go so well together. Why better than what I expected after the previews. The color, the lettering. It's a beautiful book. Can't wait for the next one.

It felt like the issue contained as much stuttering as that movie about King George VI. Since Alan Moore does everything for a reason, I assume it's just his way of showing distressed speech within the confines of stilted Silver Age dialog, but when it occurs on almost every page it gets a little annoying. He should have trusted the facial expressions of the characters to do the job. It's one of the reasons why comics have pictures, after all.

I don't recall any stuttering. I'm sure there was but not enough to leave an impression.

So, I finally read it. Have to admit that I was kinda lost at what exactely is going on with all the multiple names and characters etc. The art was OK but I didn´t really care much for the book.

I hope the next issue will be better. Will it even continue from last issue or will it be a fresh start?

When will #64 be out?
