There is a theory that group consciousness is achieved by our brains being electro-chemical machines that can transmit information via the electro-magnetic field of the Earth. Basically your brain acts like a radio antenna with very low power output but it is enough to transmit to the electro-magnetic field of the Earth and we are constantly sending and receiving information from each others brains. The theory is that there is so much information that most of it gets ignored by our brains but sometimes something big happens and a large number of brains send the same kind of information out at the same time so people around the globe receive it and don't filter it out.

They did some tests on it and things like massive earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, and terror attacks cause people around the world to become more agitated even if they don't experience the phenomenon directly and even if they don't have any direct knowledge of the calamity. The tests don't really test the transmission mechanism only the results so it is a little suspect.

I heard about it on one of those science shows on the science channel. I am not sure if it is a hoax or not. It it is true then many pagan "gods" could be group conscious archetypes shared from brain to brain across the Earth's electro-magnetic field.

My philosophy is more of a pantheistic view, with a lot of humanism thrown in for good measure. They may be a little conflicting but whatever. In terms of my pantheism, I think I would characterize my belief in "god" as the world around us. I have a truly profound respect for nature, and feel as if there is a lot to nature that we will never understand. This would be my "god". The beauty of the natural world, the complexity of it (whether is be biotic or abiotic), human consciousness, etc.

As for my humanism, I whole-heartedly believe that I do not need a higher power to be a "good" person. I do believe human beings determine what is good and what is bad. Notable examples of this have existed throughout history. According to the Plato, "Is what is morally good commanded by God because it is morally good, or is it morally good because it is commanded by God?" (modern English translation, per se) I don't think there is a a man in the sky who decides what is right or wrong. I KNOW that human beings can help to make each OTHER better.

It is not so much that I am an atheist, as much as I am an atheist in terms of most Abrahamic religions/god fearing religions. Unfortunately, since I live in Jesusland, making this know to anyone outside of my circle is social suicide. Most people assume something is wrong with me or I need help or that "I'm lost". I mean this in the nicest way possible, but religion to me is a mind restricting concept. I was never able to truly think freely until I was broken away from the notion of divine punishment for free thought.

I grew up Catholic... became a "born again christian" at 18... went to Bible College to be a Youth Pastor at 19... lost all faith in "GOD" when I was 20. Do I believe in GOD? I question... but for the most part NO. When it comes up and people find out that I dont believe in GOD im looked at like some kind of Mutant Mexican. A Mexican that doesnt believe in GOD... NO WAY. It crazy how there are people that will look at you completely different because you dont share any kind of belief.

Atleast you are in California. Imagine Louisiana, nearly the heart of Jesusland. My father works a Catholic organization. Every single person in my family is a Catholic. Every one of my friends is a Catholic. I go to a Catholic school, which requires me to stand quietly at mass and during prayer before every class. I have to sit through Religion class, as well as take tests on the material. I don't really talk about it much, which why I am enjoying the chance to here. You can't argue with anyone about it, because you can't have a solid, well-natured argument without someone getting defensive and yelling. If it wasn't for the Bill of Rights and the beauty of this state, I would not be planning on staying here once I have completed my education. It is so xenophobic and backwards it isn't even funny.

Never been to the Dakotas. Farthest north I have been is Waverly, Iowa. What prompted to move, that is a pretty radical shift.

I definitely want to move out the city. I want to move to Thibodaux, Louisiana. I want two boats (a gulf boat for spearfishing and a jon boat for the bayous) so I can go fishing every weekend. I hate the city. It has energy, but is ugly, drab, and not any fun to me.
