My philosophy is more of a pantheistic view, with a lot of humanism thrown in for good measure. They may be a little conflicting but whatever. In terms of my pantheism, I think I would characterize my belief in "god" as the world around us. I have a truly profound respect for nature, and feel as if there is a lot to nature that we will never understand. This would be my "god". The beauty of the natural world, the complexity of it (whether is be biotic or abiotic), human consciousness, etc.
As for my humanism, I whole-heartedly believe that I do not need a higher power to be a "good" person. I do believe human beings determine what is good and what is bad. Notable examples of this have existed throughout history. According to the Plato, "Is what is morally good commanded by God because it is morally good, or is it morally good because it is commanded by God?" (modern English translation, per se) I don't think there is a a man in the sky who decides what is right or wrong. I KNOW that human beings can help to make each OTHER better.
It is not so much that I am an atheist, as much as I am an atheist in terms of most Abrahamic religions/god fearing religions. Unfortunately, since I live in Jesusland, making this know to anyone outside of my circle is social suicide. Most people assume something is wrong with me or I need help or that "I'm lost". I mean this in the nicest way possible, but religion to me is a mind restricting concept. I was never able to truly think freely until I was broken away from the notion of divine punishment for free thought.
